MNR reviewing recommendations on Muskoka Watershed to prevent flooding

Yesterday, MPP Graydon Smith said the Ministry of Natural Resources is reviewing recommendations from the Muskoka Watershed Conservation and Management Initiative, with potential amendments to the Muskoka River Water Management Plan, aiming to reduce flooding impacts in the Muskoka region. The process will include public consultations with municipal partners and dam owners.
Smith, emphasized the importance of the Muskoka River watershed to the local economy and tourism.
District Chair Jeff Lehman noted the progress made in watershed planning and welcomed the government’s commitment to further improvements.
The initiative also includes over $4 million in funding to examine watershed conditions and reduce flooding risks.
