Two local women scammed out of thousands
Huntsville OPP is warning residents about a grandparent scam targeting local seniors. Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects after two reported cases of fraud.
In one case, an elderly woman lost $5,000 to a scammer posing as a bailiff, claiming the money was needed to release her grandson from jail.
In another, a woman was tricked into withdrawing $6,000 for a caller pretending to be her grandson. A suspect, described as a woman with dark hair wearing dark clothing, has been caught on camera.
Police remind residents to be suspicious of urgent calls for money, verify stories with family, and contact authorities before sending any cash.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Huntsville OPP.
