New funding model being considered for Burk's Falls Health Centre
A new proposal is being put forward to address ongoing deficits at the Burk’s Falls Health Centre.
Jim Ronholm, a councillor with the Township of Strong and provincial NDP candidate for Parry Sound-Muskoka, suggests a new funding formula that recognizes the contributions of surrounding municipalities—Strong, Sundridge, and Joly—who use the facility but don’t utilize all of its services.
Ronholm calls for a smaller contribution from these municipalities, compared to Burk’s Falls, whose residents rely heavily on the health centre.
The Almaguin Highlands Health Council is still working on a funding model, with five options presented, but the debate may become irrelevant if the provincial government steps in to provide necessary funds.
